Kamakiriko is a contemporary artist whose work fundamentally explores the "individual" from the perspective of anonymity in modern society. His major series include a series of beauty paintings featuring anonymous women as motifs, exploring themes like "the contours of the individual" and "the sense of distance from others," and the Lost Vision series, which reconstructs subject motifs as low-resolution images, critiquing structures where historical fact and fiction circulate as equivalent images.

Having begun his artistic career in 2021, he has garnered significant attention in just two years, exhibiting extensively at art fairs both domestically and internationally, including in Taiwan and Busan. In August 2023, he participated in a group exhibition alongside artists like Yayoi Kusama at Artglorieux GALLERY OF TOKYO, operated by Daimaru Matsuzakaya within GINZA SIX.

That same month, all seven works in his solo exhibition "Do Girls Dream of Electric City?" at 9s Gallery sold out before the exhibition even opened. Two works also sold out at the group exhibition "Christmas Miracle" in December of the same year. In January 2024, all 9 pieces from his solo exhibition "27" sold out, and in April, all 4 pieces from the group exhibition "Spring Brings Us Together" sold out. Furthermore, all 15 pieces sold out at the August solo exhibition "Kirikogram - #StillTheResistance," continuing his remarkable success.

All 7 pieces sold out at the February 2025 solo exhibition "KAIJU - Awakening -". He also achieved consecutive participation for two years at ART TAIPEI, Asia's oldest art fair, further heightening expectations within the contemporary art scene.

Statement

9s Gallery is pleased to present "Lost Vision: Who fabricated the 'Princess'?," a solo exhibition by Kamakiriko, on view from Friday, November 13, 2026, to Sunday, November 22, 2026.

This exhibition further develops "Lost Vision," the series' inaugural solo exhibition presented in February of this year, shifting the core inquiry from "What are we looking at?" to "How do we remember images and assign meaning to them?"

In the previous exhibition, using historical events and visual culture as motifs rendered intentionally indistinct, Kamakiriko presented a framework in which the image is completed not solely by the artwork itself, but through the memories and experiences of the viewer.

A certain princess became one of the most famous figures in the world, yet few people truly knew her as an individual. What remains in our memory is an image of her—one replicated and shared countlessly through photographs, footage, and news media.

The works in this exhibition engage motifs across different eras and genres, including but not limited to royalty, sports, music, and cinema. What links them all is that they are experienced and remembered as "images repeatedly reproduced and shared within society," rather than as actual events or living individuals.

Furthermore, this new presentation incorporates a structural approach inspired by tabloid media. In these new works, fragmented texts are placed along the edges of the canvases, making it impossible to fully comprehend the artwork from a frontal view alone. The viewer is compelled to move around the canvas, discovering these textual elements only by changing their vantage point.

This physical experience represents an attempt to transform the act of "looking"—a consistent motif throughout Lost Vision—from passive appreciation into an active engagement, while simultaneously exposing the inherent gaze and power dynamics of visual perception.

If the previous exhibition presented the phenomenon that "images become ambiguous," this exhibition delves into how that ambiguity is produced, probing the underlying structures of the gaze, repetition, and memory. How is the world we believe we are "seeing" actually constructed? We invite you to experience firsthand this next evolution of the ongoing Lost Vision project.
